Villages of Westcreek Annual Meeting, Part 1

The Villages of Westcreek held their annual homeowner’s meeting last night, and it was packed!  We had representatives from TxDOT, Juvenile Probation Department, and even Tom Rohde of Rohde Ottmers Seigel was there.

Tom spoke about all the growth coming to our area, and gave out some very impressive numbers.  If you think the traffic is bad now….just wait!  With continued development along Potranco road all the way to Hwy 471, we’ll have new families and businesses all around us!  Academy is coming, with a new 85,000 sq ft center, a new 900,000 sq ft shopping center next to WalMart, and another new “super center” rumored to be about 1 million sq ft is coming to the Potranco and Hwy 211 area!  We’re all excited about the new growth, but will this turn out to be another Bandera/1604 or Culebra/1604 traffic nightmare?

TxDOT gave us their information on road upgrades and plans for Potranco, but they also gave us that funding is (of course) short and who knows when the projects will start.  “2015″ was the year thrown out a few times.  There are plans to widen Potranco from 80 ft to 120 ft, and to include a median, sidewalks and a bike lane.  Someone complained that they’ve never seen anyone use the sidewalks on Potranco (I have!) and that TxDOT should not include them to save money and use the money towards other projects.  The folks from TxDOT explained that sidewalks are necessary due to the proximity to neighborhoods, and that the cost is minimal compared to the rest of the projects, so it wouldn’t really matter!  I see people walking along Potranco all the time, and that is only going to increase with the coming homes and businesses.

Here is a link on loopnet for Madison’s Market, one of Rohde’s centers.  Unfortunately due to weather their construction schedule was delayed, but the center looks good and business signs are already going up!
