Schools are full. Houses are going up. And new, big businesses mean thousands more jobs. That’s just on the west to northwest side of town. So, where would you take your family for a medical emergency? The nearest hospital is
in the Medical Center. That is all changing.When you are in a medical emergency, you need help, and fast.
“It is frustrating,” says Darlene Rios, mother of four.
The traffic getting to the Medical Center is atrocious and taking your kids in for a check-up is tough for moms like Darlene Rios.
“You tend to try to get all those doctor’s appointments in at one time,” adds Rios. “Be it the summertime or when they’re off on spring break, or whatever because that’s convenient. It is frustrating. And then to fight the traffic because the Medical center is so congested.”
Her drive is about to get shorter thanks to the Westover Baptist Medical Campus, sitting on prime land, 40 acres next to Microsoft’s future datacenter.
Mark Clayton, Baptist’s Chief Development Officer, gave News 4 WOAI a tour of the
first of three buildings, which is nearly complete.It is a 6000-square foot, three story facility for primary care doctors to see you. It will feature new technology that is changing the face of healthcare.
“The first tenant is the imaging center here, which has full x-ray, MR, CT, digital
mammography,” says Clayton.While Baptist is the first to finish a facility, Methodist and Christus Santa Rosa hospitals aren’t far behind. Both are building new facilities just down the street.
That puts moms, like Darlene, at ease. “It’s very comforting to know that just in the blink an eye we can just come here and have our needs met.”
The new Baptist campus is on the corner of Wiseman and Highway 151. Methodist is building further north on the highway, while Christus Santa Rosa is building further south.
